There are many ways to base your models - I'm going to show you how I based mine, to represent the sodden and muddy battlefields of Scotland. The mud effect is created using milliput - standard grey. Spread the putty out - keep the tool moist. Using a sculpting puppet - lick his feet to keep them wet - and press footprints into the surface of the putty. Allow to set and paint Scorched brown - and dry brush earth brown. Add a few small spots of PVA Flock using static grass. The purple flowers are a product from Woodland Scenics.

The purple flowering foliage - product no. F177 on the woodland scenics site is only $3.99 - about £2.
It's not easy to find a UK distributor that has it - but I found one after a quick search on the internet. I'm away from home now - so can't remember where I got it.

does the base for the knight come as one of those display-type bases, ebob, or have you added that yourself?

It's a 30mm base - he comes with that. All heroic figures will have 30mm bases as part of the rules that will follow.

oh, i wasn't sure whether or not it was to do with the rules... there goes my idea of having them all on the same bases... it should still look amazing, due to your sculpting talents!

I've mixed the miliput with a little of sand. That gaves it a little more structure.

A little helpful hint for people who are not very neat like myself:
Do this before you paint or it will ruin your paint job.
