ive finaly found a company that sell metal for casting, but i was wondering how to make moulds for the metal, would i just use silicone or is it something else?
in case anyone else is wondering about this metal it is by Prince August and they sell packs of metal which are melted then poured into the mould. unfortunatley, they do not sell mouldmaking appliances and only sell ready made moulds i.e. chess sets, soldiers, etc

You can use silcone - you can get silicone rubber specifically for this purpose - I had some red stuff. I have to say that I didnt have much success with drop casting - but one tip I learned was to make sure the entry funnel or 'bowl' is larger - larger than the object you are casting - it's the weight of the metal pouring in that forces the air out so you want to be pouring in 3 or 4 times the amount of metal that is actually needed - so your mould needs a big fat entry funnel - channelling down into the figure.
It's a complex subject so you should surf for info on 'drop casting' and find some articles on it.

The other day i read a book telling you how to make your own moulds and models first you get a lump of plastiscene and push your sculpt half way into it.Then you make a box around it 3 times as wide as the model sticking out. You then pour some silicone on top. Wait for this to set and remove the plastiscine and cover the silicone wiyh petrolium jelly.Put the box back and pour in more silicone. Once set you can remove the model and cut funnels where you want to pour in the molten metal.

That's basically the idea - what they dont tell you is what a mess you can get in if you dont mix the silicone properly

sounds like a a discouragingly deceptively simple and hard endeavour....I can feel my dreams of casting scuplts go lower......seeing as how I don't have any worthy scuplts anyways...they are all kinda crappy...
