Happy new year from a part time lurker I bought some ebob puppets some months ago and finally got around to my first ever sculpt in this scale. So by way of thanks for the inspiration you guys provide by posting your work online Ifigured I'd better continue the tradition. Hopefully these links will work. (lousy photos mind... ) Cheers Bob 1) Got the pose I wanted eventually

2) Got so carried away there aren't any shots of the progress. Needless to say I followed the tips I've picked up on here and elsewhere whilst working on it bit by bit over the last few months. The kalashnikov isn't as sharp as I'd hoped - maybe Milliput is the answer?

3) The base is milliput - the one leg pose is dramatic but not the strongest so I opted not to use a round GW style plastic base. There's brass rod drilled and fixed into the leg and that continues via a right angle to a triangular form parallel with the floor that is then embedded across and within the diameter of the milliput. Hopefully strong and certainly balances ok. As you can see I'm more a modern conflicts fan than a fantasy/sci-fi chap - this guy is intended to represent an Amal militiaman in Beirut in the mid 80's.

happy new year type thingy! heres to more posts  looking great, esp for a first time sculpt! modern style minis can be harder to achieve than scifi or fantasy methought? the detail may need sharpening slightly .. just a bit of definition as to weapons i personally use a 50/50 brownstuff / greenstuff... retains edges more & once dry can be carved.. either way, be sure to how us more

Thanks for the feedback and tips chap.
The definition thing is one of the lessons learnt on this one. I've converted 15mm figures before and the combination of too much added detail and too sharp a definition at that scale meant it looked fairly good in green mode but just too sharp once painted. I've gone too far the other way in this larger scale I suspect.
I'll try the green/brown mix for the weapon next time.

Hello nikin Once the pose was set as per the 1st photo I added musculature to the arms and legs whilst I waited for inspiration for the character. The rifle was created by drilling the bicep of the right arm with a pin-vice (invaluable tool to my mind) and then fixing the brass rod that forms the barrel of the AK into that arm. The scultping then took place over stages allowing curing between each - I fugred that would help define breaks between each of the rifle components.
1) Stock and lower receiver. Whilst the brown stuff was curing I affixed a small piece of wire that hung down from the rifle. 2) Upper receiver - the top of the rifle and the front receiver. embedded another small piece of brass rod to represent the gas return. 3) Front lower handgrip 4) Front upper handgrip 5) gas return and front sight. Had to use superglue gel to reinforce the brown stuff at this point part way into the curing. 6) Used the wire dangling from the bottom of the gun to act as a post for the magazine.

Wow, very very nice. I cannot believe I missed this!
Are you looking for a Spentaz (sp?) feel? Or is he a one off?

Thanks faramirsmumma. Other commentators felt he would make a good chechen guerilla so despite the original subject for inspiration he's probably a fairly generic AK47 wielding warrior Suspect with my attention span he'll be a one off subject wise. I don't have space\time to game in this scale so I don't foresee working on a cohesive unit of figures. Who knows where the muse will take me next time? :-)

Thats a good point - about the Chechens.
You definatly have talent, so I would strongly recommend pushing yourself and creating more models.
Also, how do you find the Ebob puppet?
As others have said, it looks sweet, and I love the AK-47!
