I'm making some 28mm otomons and I have to make matchlocks for the first time. They are very early rifles. I have a reasonable idea of what the design is, but NO idea how to sculpt a gun. Anyone know how? WHat materials should I use? A good tutorial to miniature firearm sculpting would be helpful. Best Reguards Mminiatures
PS: Anyone who happens to know a place for pictures of ottomon gear coulp please post it here? I'd appreciate it.

I faced the same problem with an AK47 for my first 28mm sculpt. I had a reasonable idea of the AK components - in this case how to strip it it down and rebuild it - so I approached sculpting it in the same way and only sculpted one component at a time to help keep each element defined. I started with brass rod as a barrel and used brown stuff for each of the sections. It didn't hold an edge as I'd hoped and the advice I've received for next time is to use 50-50mix green and brown stuff. Are you making one and then recasting it for the other figs? In terms of gear the Osprey titles for the Ottomans aren't too bad but the empire covered a large time period and the titles may not be as focused as you want. What period are you concentrating on 15th, 16th or 17th century? tinyurl.com/cj6rj

It came very well, I like it a lot. I used the photo of the Ottomon Matchlock for reference. I couldn't get a good picture as its so small, it gets very shadowed. If I get one, I'll post it here. Thanks again. I didn't think I could sculpt a gun but I'm pleased with the results.
