I often have the problem of mixing a bit too much greenstuff and over time it builds up. Putting it under water does not help and milliput is even proud of the fact so does anyone have any way of preventing it going hard (short of putting it in a vacuum ;D)

well the obvious answer is don't mix so much.
Milliput goes hard under water so that's not true that it doesn't.

i have a flat plastic pot i roll extra GS out onto... then once its dry can be carved into armour plates i always take the point of view "rather too much than too little" .. its a pain mixing GS on the fly to match hte current batch

Sometimes I try something similar to that, if I have enough, I flatten it onto a peice of wood or something and press in a Rohan sheild or a sword. When its dry I can cast weapons and sheilds easily and I converted legolas to have knives like that.

What I normally do is roll the remainder into a ball and leave it to dry next to the model. I can test the ball periodically to see when it set rather than putting a finger print on my mini.

Thats a good idea and it will stop me needing to partially resculpt and smooth the almiost hard putty on the model

If you mix up too much Greenstuff or Milliput, stick the left over in the freezer. It keeps for a couple of days.

or you can squash it into a square and when its dry cut it up into flagstones you cant really make GS dry quicker, from my experiance, a hairdryer moistens it and melts the plastic base you are sculpting on, leaving it to dry under a desk lamp only helps it ever so slightly that its not worth the new bulb you have to put in afterwards and the extra cash on the electri bill ( 50 pence isnt much i know, but if you do it frequently it soon adds up) hope that helps
