For swords I use heavy fuse wire - flattened with pliers and start from there - filing it straight. for pole weapons I used brass rod - and made the blades from milliput - but that's tricky to do.

Thanks, so if I flatten some wire with a hammer it should do the task of a sword

a hammer is a bit extreme - just some pliers will do it. I use fuse wire which is fairly soft. You will need to tidy up the blade either by sanding/filing it - or using some miliput over the top - but you need something to get you started and some kind of wire is the best start. You can see the start of Wallace's sword (on his back) here.. ebobminiatures.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=next&action=display&thread=1159464916Although.. the easiest thing to use is plastic or plastic card (althouth the handle then is more difficult). I don't use plastic because it melts when the figure is moulded.
