Stargate SG-1 Sculptacular!!!

Hello!!

I know that his is not really an army diary as such, but I wanted to create a thread that would let me do a running commentary on my sculpts of SG-1, and thought this was the best place for it.

So, what's it all about? Over 6 months ago, I fancied trying my hand at some sculpting, and decided that a Jaffa Warrior from Stargate SG-1 would be a really cool thing to sculpt. Needless to say, it didn't go anywhere. About a week ago, however, I decided it was time to dust off the old sculpting tools and give it another go. I ordered 10 new Ebob armatures, found myself a notepad and started work on what soon turned into a very promising project. Below I have posted a couple of images of SG-1, my final concept sketches - no-one laugh at the rubbish drawings - and the posed armatures to go with them.

Colonel Jack O'Neil
The leader of SG-1, Colonel Jonathon 'Jack' O'Neil is a high ranking US Air Force officer. He retired after his son died tragically, accidentally shooting himself with Jack's sidearm. However, upon the creation of the Stargate program, he rejoined the Air Force and was a major part of te first mission.


Dr Daniel Jackson
An egyptologist, Dr Daniel Jackson is not military personnel, but a civillian. Recruited for his keen knowledge of languages, Dr Jackson was the person who figured out the mystery of the Stargate, and accompanied the first team to go through. After the defeat of the Go'auld Ra, Dr Jackson decided to stay on Abidos, the planet they travelled to, with his wife. After she was taken as a Go'auld host, he returned to Earth to help fight the Go'auld, hoping to save his wife.
Daniel has died twice now during the seasons, both times ascending to a higher plane of existance. Due to his continual desire to help his Earth friends, he was returned to the mortal plane both times.


Major Samantha Carter
Major Samantha Carter, of the US Air Force, is an able soldier and a brilliant scientist, always on the frontline with SG-1. She is the expert on all things Stargate, and is behind most of the technological advances founded on the Stargate Program.


Teal'c
Once the first prme of the Go'auld System Lord Apophis, Teal'c turned against the Go'auld to fight against the false gods of the Go'auld, to ensure the freedom of his brothers. Now named Sho'vah (traitor) by the Go'auld, he has continued to be a valuable asset to the SGC, keeping them well informed with information about the Go'auld. Determined to free the Jaffa from their slavery, Teal'c is a formidable and proud warrior.


Jonas Quinn
Jonas Quinn is a relative mystery to me, a humanoid alien who joined SG-1 after they saved his home planet. Only present for 1 year in the Stargate Program, he quickly returned to his home planet to continue its struggle for freedom. He appeared during the time at which Daniel Jackson was ascended.



So there you have it, the humble beginnings of my sculpts. I apologise for the large pictures.

Scuplting them all by yourself? Well, if you like the scifi thing - do a Google Search for "FireFly". You'll find a very nice spaceship

Jonas Quinn

A human from Kelowna on the planet Langara, Jonas Quinn replaced Daniel Jackson on SG-1 for a year. Capable of quickly absorbing volumes of information, Jonas was a rather unlikely candidate for Jackson's replacement after his tragic death. He stood idly by as Jackson gave his life to save Kelowna from disaster, initially putting him on bad terms with Colonel Jack O'Neill and SG-1.

Convinced by O'Neill not to allow Jackson to be used as a scapegoat for the accident, Jonas stole as much naquadria as he could and defected to Earth. Wishing to make amends with O'Neill and the others for what had happened, he committed himself to reading every valuable text on the base -- especially Dr. Jackson's notes -- to prove himself worthy of joining the team.

In his year of service as a member of SG-1, Jonas was always quick to make decisions in favor of the whole team, and prepared himself for every mission with a generous amount of input and an eagerness that surpassed, and often annoyed the others. He was thrilled to experience space travel for the first time, and fervently enjoyed his first trip in a death glider.

Jonas learned that he is rather unique among Kelownans when the Goa'uld Nirrti put him in a genetic manipulation device created by the Ancients. He is more evolved than the average human, and possesses keen sensory abilities including a photographic memory and acute attention to detail. Nirrti wished to turn him into a hok'taur ("advanced human") and blend with him as her new host -- but he refused, and helped overthrow her.

Nearing the end of his time with SG-1, Jonas was captured by Anubis and implanted with a device that gave the Goa'uld access to all of his memories. Anubis learned about the existence of the powerful mineral naquadria, and its location on Jonas' homeworld. Quinn's worst fears came to be: His entire mission with SG-1 had him bent on one day returning to his world to save it from the day the Goa'uld would come. Instead, he had led that very threat right to the capital city.

Given the chance to save a returned Daniel Jackson, much like Daniel saved him and his people before, Quinn pushed the archaeologist away to avoid a fatal staff blast, bringing their relationship full circle. After helping to save his people from Anubis, and with Daniel back with SG-1, Jonas returned to his people to help them forge a new future, beginning with a new Joint Ruling Council. The other major governments on his planet were finally willing to set aside their differences and work together, but they insisted that the experienced Quinn represent his nation. He returned not as a traitor, but a hero.

Wow, its nice too see another stargate fan on these forums . Well these models are extremely nice, i'de realy like it if someone made some serpant/Horus/jackel guard sculpts, that would be cool.

This is a good looking start - and a brave thing to do, considering, in theory, the world is your potential audience! Keep it up and the very best of luck. I enjoy Stargate (are you listen Channel 4?) and Stargate Atlantis (you too, Channel 5!).

I've done a wee bitty more on my sculpt lately, I've added the belt on, and done what will be seen of his T-shirt. I'm not entirely sure about his jacket, so I'll be posting a request for help in the sculpting forum.

Another update everybody

I've finally gotten round to sculpting again (I had some greenstuff left over after I filled in the gaps between the rails and the base on my new paintballers!), and I've now almost finished his jacket! Pictures are worth 1000 words, so here they are;
