UndercoatingThe first thing to do is to undercoat your miniatures matt black. Undercoating is best done by spray painting. I prefer to use a large size can of matt black car spray - I use Halfords spray paint in the UK. Always get the biggest can - it has better pressure than the smaller cans. Painting - using GW's acryllic rangeFirst I cover the miniature with Scorched Brown - then dry brush with earth brown. Next the flesh is blocked in with elf flesh. The flesh is darkened using watered down Bestial brown - it will be highlighted again using elf flesh. The plaid or tartan can be done very simply. Keeping the scorched brown as the base colour - just apply horizontal stripes of Vermin brown. Add some white to the Vermin colour and go over the lines again picking up on the high spots in the folds. Next run some lines of Catachan green (add a little white to the green) between the Vermin lines. Finally I like to dirty the bottom edge of the kilt using a thin wash of Kommado Kahki. If you feel the need you can cross the tartan with vertical lines of Kahki - but it's not really necessary. Obvious finishing touches are boltgun metal on the weapons - mithril silver on belt buckles - shirt can be earth brown or kahki - hair colour is Bestial brown. Keep the colours very earthy - no bright colours on early plaid.

Ebob, I have always been a white under coat guy, but I really like the way your Clansmen and English turn out. A question though, the coat of brown, is that brushed on fully or is it a wash?
