Here's my first Rebellion miniature, William Wallace. It's not very original, but I felt compelled to recreate the image of Wallace from Braveheart. What a great mini, and a pleasure to paint. At some point I'll probably borrow HerVonMoria's idea of converting another Wallace mini with a two-hander. As you can see, I'm not much of a "flocker." I always struggle with base and flock colors. What looks good in one location, can look out of place in another. For example, nice green grass looks out of place on a castle wall or in the Mines of Moria. So, I've tried to select a ground cover that would somewhat fit everywhere, and for now I've settled on this sort of drab, summer grass look. Thanks Ebob for your excellent tartan painting guide. I would not have known how to start without it. I'm ready for my Clansmen now!

Thanks. He was really fun and rewarding to paint. Hey, I read your basing method. I like the, muddy, crab-grassy look you achieved. I think it would work for almost any location. I'm going to give it a try. Wallace needs to be standing on something a bit more interesting than a putting green.

I couldn't agree more. Basing is 50% of a good miniature. Take a look at superb example here... To mind the basing is better than the miniature. www.coolminiornot.com/161894How come your wallace isn't on the 30mm base he should have been supplied with one.

That's a great looking mini, and base, but to me he appears to be more for display than for gaming. I like your basing method. It's simple, practical, and looks like a battlefield. It blends into the battleground. I was afraid you were going to ask about the 30mm base. I'm thinking of using a different method to identify the leaders and heroes. For the Scots I think I might go with the face paint for the leaders, or perhaps a small coat-of-arms marker on the base. For the English, perhaps a different uniform treatment. I haven't decided yet. It's silly, but I just prefer the smaller, 25mm bases for the foot-soldiers. Thanks Sirhc. When the Clansmen arrive, I'll probably start experimenting with the new base thechnique.
