First the praise - the sculpting quality looks very good indeed _ I would certainly consider buying some of the English to bulk out my forces
The downside - I have never seen any portrayals of 13th Century Scots looking anything like these figures, outside of a certain film.
Why not start a new genre 'pulp' medievals. Great figures for this

To me these sources look like a romantic Victorian view of the Scots.
Have you read William Wallace - The True Story of Braveheart by Chris Brown pblished by Tempus in 2005? I am part way through reading it myself, but have read other earlier work as well. The illustrations suggest normal 13th century garb for the Scots. No woad either!

I have not - I have read the Book by Mackay. http://hal_macgregor.tripod.com/gregor/Wallace.jpg The history book is not victorian, nor are the reinactors or the bronze or the woodcut. I can't find the reference now.. but I will - in one of my books there is a quote - by a English poet of the time - he describes the Scottish warriors as 'outrageously dressed'. Hardly a description of men dressed similarly to himself. Woed is of course not modelled on the figures - you can paint them without it. again.. this is similar - an image of Wallace at Stirling www.markchurms.com/Merchant2/graphics/wallace-l.jpgSignificantly the above image is by the same historical artist who not only does much work for Osprey also produced this www.markchurms.com/Merchant2/graphics/1298-l.jpg

I would recommend the book I quoted above as a good reference for anyone wanting to read up on the period.
To wind up my comments I suppose the underlying problem I have is that such figures perpetuate the wild barbarian (Highlander) stereotype that is often applied to all Scots. Scotland was a member of the Northern European family of nations at that time as sopisticated and culturally advanced as any of its neighbors. It was a small, not very populous country, and so lacked the resources to match England militarily for much of the period.
As an Englishman who has lived in Scotland for 6 years and having read up a fair bit on medieval Scotland and its wars I have a lot of admiration for the fighting ability of their forces, although not of the generalship of most of their leaders. The records do not show how good a general Wallace was, although he must have been at the very least personally brave and a charismatic leader.
Anyway I have made my point. As I said before nice sculpts. It is only a game after all. Good luck with the project - I will keep my eye open for the rules - I am always a sucker for a new set of medieval rules.
Happy gaming
Dave

I think you'll be happier when I start with the Scots army at Stirling rather than these 'brigands' - you'll see pikemen and Knights like Morey.

i'm watching the certain film while i type here now - and it is making these miniatures already more tempting so i think i'm going to buying the pack of 27 troops and Wallace to start off with these are your best work to date and i'm really looking forward to them.

also while looking at your English noble man, do you think there might be one a variant with a cape? as it would help show importances and differences in your miniatures,

He's gone because he had a spear and a sheild - not permitted in the rules.
